Toyota Sold Over 17,000 Units in India in November

Toyota is planning to set up its third plant in India, which is likely to ramp up production capacity by around 1 lakh units per year.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced on Friday that it has recorded a surge of 51 percent in the month of November by selling 17,818 units in the Indian market, while last year, it only sold 11,765 units in the same month. The two most famous models offered by Toyota in the country are the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. While these MPV and SUV remain the chief in their segments, Toyota claims that it has seen a high demand for its mid-size sports utility vehicle, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which was launched last year. While 894 units of the Cruiser were exported worldwide, the company sold 16,924 Urban Cruiser Hyryder units in the Indian market.

In the first 11 months of the calendar year 2022, Toyota sold 1.50 lakh units, while this year total sales for the manufacturer in India went up by 40 percent as it sold 2.10 lakh units. The company has completed 25 successful years in India, and its plan is to close in 2023 with a robust order book to fill.

Toyota also sells models like the Glanza, Vellfire, Camry Hybrid, and Rumion in the domestic market. The company’s complete focus is on an investment of INR 3,300 crores, which will further aid it in setting up its third plant in India, which would be in Karnataka’s Bidadi, near Bengaluru. This new facility is likely to ramp up production capacity by around 1 lakh units per year, which will lead to creating employment opportunities for almost 2,000 people. The company believes its SUVs are likely to gain even more popularity in the Indian passenger vehicle market.
