Mercedes-Benz has introduced the next-generation AMG E53, a hybrid vehicle that is available in both wagon and sedan styles. The latest addition to its E-Class portfolio, the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+, is a performance-focused car featuring a refined chassis, an aggressive design language, and an enhanced power output of up to 603 hp. The new AMG model will set a new benchmark for hybrid-performance vehicles.

The E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ is placed just below the forthcoming Mercedes E63 performance flagship, which will also have a PHEV setup. In terms of robust power and performance, the E53 shows a significant leap ahead as compared to its sibling. The AMG E53 comes with a stiffer body, standard rear-axle steering, larger brakes, and adaptive suspension along with variable damping. The AMG Dynamic Plus package has enhanced the overall performance of the new model with Race Start functions, dynamic engine mounts, and an electronically managed rear axle locking differential.

The exterior of the AMG E53 gets an illuminated grid-like grille, quad exhaust round tips, and wider front fenders. The E53’s front axle is a little wider than the one equipped on a regular E-Class. It rolls on 19-inch alloy wheels and is also available with 20-inch alloys or 21-inch forged wheels.

Inside the cabin, the E53 houses a luxurious cabin along with electrically manageable AMG sports seats that are covered in man-made Artico leather and micro-cut microfiber. The Mercedes AMG performance steering wheel is wrapped in Nappa leather, whereas the door cards and dashboard get a shiny grey open-pore ash wood trim, which is a hybrid-specific feature. The new hybrid model gets an infotainment system that features various AMG-specific and hybrid-specific displays, along with the optional MBUX Superscreen layout that provides a premium user experience to the passengers.

The new sedan comes with a robust plug-in hybrid powertrain. The unit features a potent 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine that churns out 443 hp (330 kW or 449 PS). It has a 161-hp single electric motor that provides a total output of 577 hp. Combined with launch control, the total combined power increases to 603 hp. The engine is fixed into the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission. The completely variable 4Matic+ system distributes 577 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque to all four axles. With the Race Start mode activated, the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package unleashes 603 horsepower for those looking for a little more power.

When it comes to performance, the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and 3.9 seconds for the estate variant. With the optional AMG Driver’s Package, the new sedan model can bag a high speed of 280 kmph, whereas the wagon version reaches 275 kmph.
