Royal Enfield is one motorcycle brand that’s touching new levels of popularity not just in India but in international markets like USA, United Kingdom among others. Recently, we have been covering some interesting Royal Enfield motorcycles modifications done by enthusiasts. Some of the modifications took our breath away for their exquisite design and some for the sheer technical customization. Now, we bring you a Royal Enfield Bullet transformed into an electric motorcycle. A tough ask for anyone but Kerala based Hound Electric has come up with this cool modification.

Royal Enfield Bullet Modified

Hound Electric took a stock Royal Enfield Bullet 350 and transformed into an electric bike. The idea stemmed from Hound Electric CEO Paul Alex, who deputed two interns D Harikrishnan and Mustafa. The project began in September last year and initially, Hero Splendor or a lightweight motorcycle was being considered for the transformation. After much deliberation, the duo picked up a Royal Enfield Bullet to be fitted with a 10 kW electric motor with a 72A/60V battery pack.

As per the modifier, the chassis of the electric Bullet is developed from scratch with the frame borrowed from an old bike at the scrapyard. Hound Electric approached an Indian manufacturer for the Permanent Magnet Direct Current (PMDC) electric motor. Its battery weight is approximately 32 Kgs while the electric motor weighs around 10 kgs. The battery is placed below the fuel tank where the stock engine used to be . Further to hold it in position mounts have been made. The modified bike weighs 166 kgs and can travel a distance of upto 80 kilometres on a single charge. As per the automotive designers, the modified Royal Enfield Bullet Electric can clock a top speed of 100 kmph. The time taken for full charging of the battery wasn’t revealed by the modifiers.

The modified Royal Enfield Bullet took the designers around 10 months to make while the total cost came to Rs 35,000. The cost does not include the electric motor, battery and other parts that were already in their possession. Earlier this year in April, an electric Royal Enfield was unveiled by British company Electric Classic Cars (ECC). The trend of electric Royal Enfield motorcycles is going to increase more considering that there are rumours of the Chennai based manufacturer launching its own version in the near future.
