Mahindra is all set to launch the Thar 5-door SUV in the Indian market next year. This SUV is the company’s most anticipated launch for next year. The manufacturer has been testing the 5-door version of the Thar for some time now. The test mules of the 5-door have been witnessed various times across the country. Recently, the spy shots of the SUV came from Mettupalayam, Tamil Nadu. The Mahindra Thar 5-door was spotted at a petrol pump in Tamil Nadu. The company is planning to launch the SUV on the market in 2024. However, it has not confirmed the launch date for the SUV.
The Thar 5-door is expected to come with more features than the standard SUV. The Mahindra 5-door variant will come with several cosmetic changes, including a newly designed grille, daytime running lamps, rear AC vents, and a pair of round LED headlamps with circular DRLs. The Thar 5-door is likely to be visually similar to the 3-door variant, but it will come with a longer wheelbase, a new set of alloy wheels, and an extra pair of doors. The longer wheelbase will provide more space for the rear set of doors. The new LED tail lamps equipped in the SUV will have a rectangular design, but the inside elements will be shuffled. The SUV will also get a side-hinged back door, and a spare tyre will be mounted on the door.

The manufacturer will add an electric sunroof and a larger touchscreen infotainment system to the SUV. The new infotainment system will come with Apple CarPlay. There is a possibility that the manufacturer will add an armrest for the back and front passengers. The automaker will offer the SUV with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a 4x4 drivetrain as a standard.
The SUV is expected to be powered by the 2.0 litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel engines mated to manual and AT gearbox options. After its official launch in the market, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will rival the likes of the forthcoming Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The new model is likely to come at an initial price of INR 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
