The teasers started coming in weeks ahead and now the German maker’s Indian division BMW India has brought the Z4 drop top sports car to India. The newly launched Z4 is the sixth generation of the drop-top car and is the updated 2019 version. The new drop-top from the German brand has been launched in India in two variants – the sDrive20i variant priced at Rs. 64.90 lakhs and the M40i priced at Rs. 78.90 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom India). BMW Z4 will lock horns with Porsche 718 Boxster and the Audi TT. To let you know, the all-new BMW Z4 share its platform with the new model of Toyota Supra. The drop top coupe will come to India as a completely built model, hence the higher price tag. However, it is still cheaper than the Porsche Boxster, which is priced at Rs. 90 lakhs ex-showroom, India.

BMW India’s acting president Hans-Christian Baertels spoke on the occasion of the launch of BMW Z4 in India and said,

“BMW has a rich history of roadsters that have stood out as icons of pure driving pleasure. The all-new BMW Z4 Roadster is our brand-new addition to BMW's long history of engrossing roadsters. With dynamic proportions, emotional design and thrilling sportiness, this open-top two-seater takes the classic roadster into the world of tomorrow. When the roof opens, there are no limits to driving pleasure in the all-new BMW Z4 Roadster.”

The lower trim sDrive 20i will come equipped with a 2L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine rated to deliver 197 Bhp and 320 Nm. The top end model M40i comes with a 3L, 6-cylinder, turbo petrol engine rated to deliver 340 Bhp and 500 Nm. The two engines will come with a ZF 8 speed torque converter automatic gearbox standard. Both the trims of the Z4 are rear wheel drive and come with a 50:50 weight distribution for better handling and driving dynamics.

Talking about performance numbers, the BMW Z4 sDrive 20i can go from naught to ton in mere 6.6 seconds, and its top speed is 240 Kmph. The top end and powerful M40i trim will reach from 0 to 100 Kmph in a blistering 4.5 seconds, and the top speed for this version is 250 Kmph. The M40i trim will have a sport-tuned suspension with variable sport steering, electronically controlled dampers for adjusting car’s handling on the fly, M Sport brakes and M Sport differential.

The top end M40i also comes with a differently designed package in contrast to the lower 20i version.
