If the media reports are to be believed, the German carmaker BMW is working on a new electric coupe which will be known by the name i6.

With the i6, BMW will pitch itself as future-ready. The BMW has already has lined up its upcoming electric cars -iX3, iNEXT and i4, that would hit the market by the year 2021. At present BMW has two models under its EV division, which are i3 and i8.

The i3 model is a fully electric vehicle while the i8 is a hybrid model. With several EV’s lined up, BMW is using an aggressive strategy in the electric vehicle segment. The company already owns the trademark for the BMW i6, which is slated to launch in the year 2024. When launched the Electric car will rival with the likes of Audi e-Tron GT, Mercedes-Benz EQS and Porsche Taycan.

There are speculations that the BMW i6 electric coupe will have styling inspired from 8-Series Gran Coupe. Although BMW has not revealed any details of the car but most likely the car will be powered by two electric motors, each powering one axle. The front axle will derive power from a 204 ps motor while the rear axle will be mated to a 340 PS generating e-motor.

The powertrain will effectively deliver 544 PS of power upon a combination of both motors. The EV is estimated to have a driving range of 700 km upon the single charge, claims the report.
