Nissan has unveiled the Micra facelift for the European market. The new hatchback is expected to be launched in the coming days at a price of £13,995 or around Rs 14 Lakhs in Indian currency. The fifth generation Nissan Micra arrived in September 2016 and was due for an update. The facelifted version comes with cosmetic tweaks and isn’t radically different from the model currently on sale in Europe. The exciting bit is the addition of new N-Design and N-Sport trims alongside the existing Visia, Acenta, and Tekna variants. Also, the all-new N-Design trim comes with options for customizations. The buyers can pick from two different colour customisation finishers available for the front and rear section.

The top-end N-sport variant will flaunt black accents on front, rear and side profile, thus setting it apart from the other models. It rides on 17-inch black Perso alloy wheels. On the N-Sport, new LED fog lamps and headlights are offered as standard. In the interior, the seats come in premium Alcantara upholstery. The automaker is offering 16-inch dual-tone wheels as standard on both N-Design and Tekna trims.

Moving on to the Tekna trim, it comes with features like blind-spot warning, moving object detection, around view monitor and Bose sound system among others. NissanConnect infotainment system with TomTom sat-nav, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto & Siri recognition system are available in all the models starting from the Acentra trim. All the five variants come packed with safety features like Hill Start Assist, intelligent trace control and ride control. The manufacturer also offers a safety pack with advanced technologies like Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition, forward emergency braking and pedestrian recognition. It is available in selected models.

Talking about the powertrain, the Japanese giant has discontinued the 1.5-litre Renault-sourced diesel engine. The new 1.0-litre turbocharged engine powers the Micra facelift which is compliant with the Euro 6 emissions, thus delivering better fuel efficiency. No details on the performance figures are out yet but the manufacturer claims enhanced torque delivery and fewer gear changes.

In India, Nissan has discontinued the Micra so expectations are low of the facelift model arriving next year. As of now, Nissan is focussing on the sub-compact SUV segment with the launch of Magnite later this month. As per the recent leaks on the prices, the Magnite will start from Rs 5.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India) making it the most affordable subcompact SUV in the country.
