LML stands for Lohia Machines Private Limited. The Indian two-wheeler manufacturer began its journey in the year 1978. Initially, the company was involved in the manufacturing of synthetic yarn machines. After years in that business, it became a public limited company and diversified into processing synthetic yearn in the same year. After 6 years, it entered into a technical collaboration with Italian two-wheeler giant Piaggio wherein a scooter project was set up between the two companies. After nearly a decade of collaboration, the first scooter LML Select came out in the year 1993. LML bikes in India back then were way ahead of time and boasted new technology and aesthetics which helped the brand to achieve instant success. However, before it could completely take off, their collaboration with Piaggio ended in the year 1999.

Post the breakup, LML continued to manufacture Star – A steel bodied scooter with twist-shift-4-speed manual transmission and a two-stroke 150cc engine. The specifications were too good at the time. IN the year 2008, the Star Deluxe was re-introduced in the United Kingdom as Euro 3 emissions compliant model.

LML’s first commuter motorcycle was launched in the year 2002. A 110cc bike achieved a decent success in the market which led to the introduction of yet another model in 2004. LML introduced LML Graptor which helped the manufacturer to enter the 150cc segment. The year 2004 was the biggest in the motorcycle manufacturer’s history as went from a single product company to a portfolio boasting company with three launches in a year. LML Graptor and Freedom Pima along with Prima 125cc came out in the same year.

As for the current crop of LML bikes in India, there are only two models available – Freedom DX and Freedom LS. Thus, the manufacturer does not have a big portfolio but rather a compact one when it comes to the LML bikes in India.

There is not a lot to cover about the new LML bike models. However, we can learn about the variation offered by the manufacturer in these two variants of Freedom.
