Jaguar Land Rover India has announced that two of its most famous SUVs, the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport, will be locally assembled in India. The Range Rover SUVs will be built at the brand’s manufacturing facility located in Pune, India. JLR will start delivering these locally made SUVs across the nation on August 16. The local assembly of Range Rover models will result in significant price cuts.

JLR India has attained tremendous sales growth in India over the last few years. India has now become the first nation outside of the UK to domestically manufacture the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs. In addition, the company already produces models like the Velar, the Jaguar F-Pace, the Evoque, and the Discovery Sport at its Pune facility. Customers can still select from a range of other variants, which will continue to be imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs).

The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are powered by 3.0-litre diesel and petrol engines. The diesel engine churns out 346 bhp of power and 700 Nm of peak torque, while the 3.0-litre turbo-petrol can generate 393 bhp of power and 550 Nm of torque.

The locally built Range Rover is available at a price of INR 2.36 crore (ex-showroom), while the Range Rover petrol Autobiography version comes at a price of INR 2.60 crore (ex-showroom). On the other hand, both diesel and petrol versions of the Discovery Sport are priced at INR 1.40 crore (ex-showroom). The company announced these prices at the official inauguration of its first experiential center in India, which is named the Range Rover House in Alibaug.

The Chief Commercial Officer at JLR, Lennard Hoornik, said, “Over the last few years, India has witnessed steady and spectacular economic growth and is poised to grow consistently in the future as well. This growth has resulted in tremendous opportunities to localize product offerings for the discerning Indian clientele. Local manufacturing of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India is the next significant step towards the brand consolidating its position as the most desirable modern luxury SUV family in the country."
