Isuzu has officially unveiled the production-ready Isuzu D-Max EV at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, UK. This all-electric D-Max is the brand's first major step into the EV pickup segment.

This electric pickup looks very similar to its diesel counterpart and has a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons and a payload capacity of over 1 ton. The company has not announced its launch date for India officially, and there is no hint either.

This truck will be available in two variants with extended and double cabs in both variants. It has no direct competitors other than the existing Tesla Cybertruck, and potential Ford Ranger EV, and the Toyota Hilux EV.

Electric Isuzu D-Max production details

The mass production of the Isuzu D-Max EV has commenced in Thailand, and the initial production is geared towards left-hand drive (LHD) models for European markets. The production of right-hand drive (RHD) models for markets like the UK, Australia, and India is scheduled to begin towards the end of 2025. It's going to be launched in two variants.

Electric Isuzu D-Max features

The electric Isuzu D-Max blends the traditional ruggedness and practicality of the D-Max with the advanced technology and efficiency of an electric powertrain. It retains the recognizable D-Max silhouette and will be available in practical Extended Cab and spacious Double Cab body styles.

The unique EV design elements are the unique badging, a closed-off front grille area, and different wheel designs. Expect modern LED lighting technology for headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights.

It is likely to be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), regenerative braking, and different driving modes. The new electric pickup is also expected to have a larger fully digital infotainment display.

The new Isuzu is going to offer quieter rides with around 10% reduced cabin noise and vibration. Moreover, it has a new De-Dion rear suspension and a dedicated rough terrain mode.

Electric Isuzu D-Max battery and range

This all-electric pickup has a Lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 66.9 kWh and can run up to 263 km (European standard WLTP combined range) on a single full charge.

This truck supports DC fast charging also, where it can go from 20 to 80% in just one hour. The 11kW AC charger takes 10 hours to fully charge the battery from 0 to 100. It also gets recharged with multi-level regenerative braking.

Electric Isuzu D-Max powertrain and specifications

The new electric D-Max is based on a revamped version of Isuzu's robust ladder-frame chassis adapted to accommodate the electric drivetrain and battery pack.

It has a dual-motor setup with new e-Axles integrated into both the front and rear axles. The combined power and torque from these two motors stand at 188 bhp and 325 Nm, respectively.

The 2-motor system enables a full-time 4WD drive, and a Rough Terrain Mode helps in optimizing power delivery and traction control.

The rear suspension is upgraded and features an all-new De-Dion rear suspension setup, replacing the traditional leaf spring suspension found in the diesel D-Max

It's claimed acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 10.1 seconds, and top speed is around 130 km/h.
