Mahindra & Mahindra is likely to discontinue the production of its flagship SUV, Alturas 4G in India by 2021. The main reason behind this decision is the split between the home-grown automaker and Ssangyong. Currently, Mahindra has enough material and components that it can build 500 units of Alturas G4. Post this, the company will stop assembling the SUV at its Chakan facility. Furthermore, it is imported to India as a CKD unit from South Korea.

Mahindra gave a BS6 update to the Alturas G4 in April this year. Currently, it is available in the price range of Rs 28.72 lakhs - Rs 31.72 lakhs (ex-showroom). The SUV is offered in two variants namely 2WD and 4WD. No changes have been made in terms of design. It continues to come loaded with a host of features. These include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Nappa leather upholstery, heated wing mirrors, ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, dual-zone climate control, a tyre pressure monitor, rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control among many others.

The safety kit of the SUV comprises front airbags, an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control, hill-descent control, hill-start assist, and rollover mitigation as standard fitments. The top-end 4WD trim is offered with 9 airbags.

Under the bonnet, the Alturas G4 is powered by a BS6 compliant 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 178 bhp power and 420 Nm torque. The engine is paired with a Mercedes Benz sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system. The SUV rivals the likes of Tata Fortuner and Ford Endeavor in its segment.
