Volkswagen has released the first official sketch of the new Polo GTI as the traditional GTI weekend meet on Lake Wörthersee stand cancelled due to COVID-19. The high-performance Volkswagen Polo GTI is based on the standard version of the hatchback which was unveiled a few days back. The official world premiere of the new Polo GTI will take place at the end of June 2021. Being the sportiest model in the Polo range, it has also been on sale in the Indian market at a sticker price of Rs 25.99 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi).
The 2021 Volkswagen Polo was introduced in three grades namely Polo, Life and R-Line, besides the recently unveiled GTI. Going by the sketch image, it will flaunt the signature red accents of the Grand Touring Injection models. The LED DRLs have been integrated in the honeycomb intakes upfront. There is a red strip above the light bar which has been borrowed from the Golf GTI. The brake calipers are also expected to come in a red shade while there will be 'GTI' badging on the front grille and tailgate. There are unconfirmed reports that the 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI will ride on 19-inch alloy wheels while the cabin upholstery and features are believed to be carried over from the standard Polo, albeit with a few GTI elements.
Under the bonnet, the 2021 Polo GTI is learnt to come with the same 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine which generates maximum power output of 197bhp and peak torque performance of 320Nm. The sources have revealed that the power output could be higher this time than before and the company will link the engine with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox instead of the preceding model's 6-speed manual unit. The hatch will touch the 100kmph mark from standstill in merely 6.7 seconds before topping out at 237kmph. For those asking, the GTI weekend meet on Lake Wörthersee has been going on since 1982 and each event lasts four days, from the Wednesday before Ascension Day to the following weekend.
