BMW India has launched the 2021 5-Series facelift at a starting price of Rs 62.90 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India) in the country. It is offered in three variants namely 530i M Sport (petrol), 520d Luxury Line and 530d M Sport (both diesel). Being locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, the BMW 5-Series facelift bookings are now open at all the company authorized dealerships from today onwards. The sedan will go up against the likes of Audi A5, Mercedes Benz E-Class and Jaguar XF in the Indian market. Online bookings made before July 24, 2021 on limited units of M Sport variant will get a discount of up to 50 percent on a selected range of exclusive M Performance accessories.

The 2021 BMW 5-Series facelift flaunts kidney grille and new slimmer full-LED adaptive headlights upfront. The M Sport variants come with BMW Laserlight technology as well. The rear end features brand-new L shape light graphics which emerge from the taillight in a three-dimensional form. For the first time, 2021 BMW 530i M Sport comes in perforated Sensatec upholstery while the 520d gets Natural Leather Dakota upholstery followed by the BMW 530d which is offered in a refined ‘Nappa’ leather upholstery with diamond stitching. Some of the notable features in 530i are sports leather steering wheel, Lumbar Support for vertical and lateral seat adjustment, large glass sunroof, Ambient Lighting Package, Electronic Power Steering, Welcome Light Carpet and four-zone automatic climate control with SYNC function.


The BMW 530d boasts of electrically adjustable comfort seats as standard. It also comes loaded with several other premium bells and whistles in the form of BMW Operating System 7.0 includes 3D Navigation, Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument display, 12.3-inch Control Display with BMW Virtual Assistant & BMW Gesture Control, Wireless Charging for mobile phones, Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View Camera, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System with high-end 16 speaker system, BMW Head-Up Display, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Remote-Control Parking, and BMW Display Key. The safety features on-board are six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).


Mechanically, the 2021 BMW 5-Series comes with one petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol variant 530i is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which delivers top power of 252 bhp and 350 Nm. It does a 0-100kmph sprint in merely 6.1 seconds. The entry-level diesel variant 520d draws power from a 2.0L 4-cylinder powertrain which generates maximum power output of 190 bhp and peak torque 400 Nm while it touches the 100kmph mark from standstill in just 7.3 seconds. The flagship 530d variant of the sedan gets the 3.0L 6-cylinder in-line motor which dishes out 265 bhp and 620 Nm while doing the 0-100kmph run in only 5.7 seconds. All the variants are linked to an 8-speed steptronic sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters.There are five drive modes on offer namely Comfort, Sport, ECO PRO, Adaptive and Sport+.
