German carmaker BMW updated version of 7-Series luxury sedan in India. The price for the line-up starts at Rs. 1.22 crore, ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 2.43 crore. The company has launched 6 variants of the car and has made major changes in all the variants. The cars will be brought to India via the Completely Built Unit route and this is one of the reasons why the 7-Series has such an exorbitant price tag.

Talking of the variants of the 7-Series, the company has also launched a plug-in hybrid variant in the 7-Series that will be sold by hte name of BMW 745Le xDrive in India. As is common with all plug-in models in the market, the 7-Series variant also comes with an electric motor that assists it with performance. However, the German brand has also included a battery pack in the model for better performance and driveability with just the electric motor. The plug-in hybrid model of the 7-Series can travel a claimed distance of 53 kilometres without using the fossil fuel engine. The inclusion of an electric motor also boosts the performance of the sedan and it can go from naught to a ton in just 5.3 seconds with the top speed being electronically limited to 250 kmph. The output for the electric motors in the variant is 108 Bhp and 265 Nm. Along with it is present the 3L inline-six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged petrol engine rated for 286 Bhp and 450 Nm.

The combined output of this variant then comes out to be 394 Bhp and 600 Nm. Even more mind-boggling than the performance is the claimed mileage of the plug-in hybrid variant of the BMW 7-Series. The German maker claims that the 745Le xDrive has a maximum mileage of 39.5 km/l, thereby making it the most fuel-efficient sedan in India. The plug-in hybrid system has a charge time of 8-12 hours via a normal socket, but the BMW charger brings down the time to just 4-5 hours. Also the hybrid system of the car comes with regenerative technology that charges the batteries using the energy from braking and deceleration.

Now coming to the least priced model of the BMW 7-Series, the 730Ld DPE, can be had for an ex-showroom price of Rs. 1.22 crores. This variant comes with a 3L inline six-cylinder engine rated to deliver 265 Bhp and 620 Nm. The naught to ton time stands at 6.2 seconds. Whereas the petrol model of the car comes with a 3L six-cylinder rated to deliver 340 Bhp and 450 Nm with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds.

The top end model of the 7-Series -- M760i xDrive --  comes with a 6L twin-turbo engine rated to deliver monstrous figures of 609 Bhp and 850 Nm. The naught to ton figure for this monster is just 3.8 seconds. Talking of the features of the 7-Series, it comes loaded for backseat comfort. There is a 4-zone climate control system, electronically adjustable seats with massage function and ventilation, leather upholstery all around, air-suspension, panoramic glass roof, 10.2-inch rear-seat entertainment system.
