About Volvo

Volvo is a Swedish automobile manufacturing company based in Gothenburg and was founded by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustav Larson in the year 1927. Its nomenclature Volvo was derived from "I roll" in Latin, conjugated from "Volvere", in reference to ball bearings. Volvo was formed as a subsidiary company to manufacture ball bearings under the name SKF. The carmaker was introduced on the stock exchange in the year 1935. Ford acquired Volvo cars in 1999. However, Volvo was bought back by Geely Holding Group in 2010.

Volvo is among the lesser known car manufacturers in India. The Swedish manufacturer, though, it was found a century ago made its debut in India just a decade ago. Owned by Zhejiang Holding Group, the manufacturer has seven active models in the market: Volvo XC90, Volvo S90, Volvo V40, Volvo S60, Volvo XC60, Volvo V40 Cross Country and Volvo V90 Cross Country. A unique thing about Volvo models is that it uses a system of letters to denote the body style of the car. For instance, S stands for Saloon and Sedan, C stands for Coupe or Convertible, V stands for Versatile, i.e. Estate car. SC stands for cross country.

Volvo has a wide portfolio around the world, and slowly it is introducing the car models in India. The Swedish manufacturer announced that the new Volvo car models which will be launched after 2019 would all be hybrid or hybrid-electric. A decision which shall put an end to their long history of the internal combustible engine.

Though the company is not much popular in the Indian market and may seem feeble, it has pretty big plans for the future. To begin with, the company is planning to launch autonomous driving cars in the Indian and the international market, and as it has the reputation of making the safest cars in the world, these cars will be a hyperjump for the company. Volvo has also joined the race of making the best electric cars and has planned to sell only electric and hybrid cars in India.

Volvo’s entry-level hatchback “V40” is, in fact, a premium sedan. The base price of these entry-level models is equal to that of Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb which are the flagship version cars for their manufacturers. If you want to buy Volvo cars in India for a low price, you can buy used cars. There are various online portals which are offering the best deals.
