On the outside
To justify the massive price reduction of this locally-assembled version of the car over the imported version, the assumption was that Jaguar would cut some equipment. But it didn’t. In fact, not only is the F-Pace Rs 20 lakh cheaper, Jaguar has surprised us by offering more equipment now. This stylish crossover is now accessible to a whole different segment of buyers.
On the inside
You get this car in a single, fully-loaded Prestige variant. It comes with premium features like adaptive LED headlamps, a 10.2-inch touchscreen with navigation, a 380W Meridian sound system, a 12.3-inch virtual TFT instrument cluster, 19-inch alloy wheels, four-zone climate control, electric reclining rear seats, an activity key and ambient lighting.
Apart from these, you also get a reversing camera, panoramic sunroof, Taurus leather seats, 10-way electric adjustment with driver seat memory, tyre pressure monitor, front and rear parking sensors, navigation, keyless entry and go – all of these were available on the previous car. You don’t, however, get features like an electrically operable tailgate, lumbar support for front seats, ventilated or massaging seat function and a 360-degree camera. Also, you get a space-saver spare tyre instead of a full-sized spare now.
The interior is the same as the imported car – it maintains the same quality of parts. The cabin feels bright and spacious courtesy the expansive glass area, and seats are large and comfy.
Under the hood
The carmaker has discontinued the 300hp 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine for this car, what you do get is a 179hp 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, transmitting power to all four wheels. While it isn’t as powerful as the earlier V6, it’s adequate to carry this car’s weight around. Performance is best in its mid-range beyond 2,000 revs. This engine does sound more vocal and grumbly though. This Jaguar really shines in the ride and handling department - it tackles corners with great poise. Ride is also really good, as before, and this car soaks up road imperfections with ease.
Should I buy one?
While driving enthusiasts may miss the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, the inclusion of several features at this much lower price point of ₹60.02 lakh (ex-showroom) will only work in this car’s favour. The Jaguar F-Pace is suddenly a very attractive package.
