Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced on Wednesday that it sold 20,494 units in India in April 2024. The brand recorded a 32 percent sales growth in April, up from 15,510 units retailed in the same month of 2023. Toyota said that it somehow managed to sustain the growth momentum despite a week-long maintenance closure that began on April 6 for upkeep of equipment and machinery to maintain operating efficiencies, safety, and productivity. The auto giant witnessed sales growth due to increasing demand for models like the Fortuner, Innova Hycross, Rumion, Innova Crysta, and more.

In April, the brand sold 18,700 units domestically, while its export sales accounted for 1,794 units. The carmaker also disclosed that during the first quarter of 2024, its sales had increased significantly. Toyota retailed 97,503 units between January and April 2024, marking a 48 percent year-over-year increase over the 65,871 units sold at the same time the previous year.

Commenting on the recent development, the Vice President (Sales-Service-Used Car Business) at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Sabari Manohar, said, “In FY 2023-2024, we demonstrated an unwavering commitment towards quality and customer-centricity that pivoted us to report record-breaking growth. Inspired by the same determination, we are thrilled to announce that in the month of April 2024, we have recorded a growth of 32% over the same period last year. We believe that this stable performance underlines a strong foundation for another positive year.”

Toyota India also launched the "T Gloss" brand last month, marking its entry into the car detailing solutions business. The new Toyota T Gloss is a first-of-its-kind OEM-led initiative that offers car care services through trained professionals. Furthermore, the automaker also introduced new iterations of models like the Fortuner, Hycross, and Rumion to make them more appealing at different price points.

The company’s sports utility vehicles, including the Fortuner, Innova range, and Legender, UC Hyryder, Hilux, and LC300, helped the brand bag this sales number. Models like the Camry Hybrid, Vellfire, Rumion, and Glanza also made noteworthy contributions.

Recently, Toyota India rolled out the new Urban Cruiser Taisor subcompact crossover in the Indian market. The crossover comes in a price range of INR 7.73 lakh to INR 13.03 lakh (ex-showroom). The Urban Cruiser Taisor is the first car to come from the Toyota-Suzuki lineup. It takes inspiration from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and retains most of its original design. The sub-compact crossover is being offered with the same engine and gearbox options as the Maruti Fronx.
