  • Video: New Yamaha R Series Motorcycle Teased

Yamaha is planning to introduce an all-new R series sports bike, confirms the new teaser video. Though, the bike cannot be seen clearly in the teaser but we can make out that the exhaust noise is identical to that of Yamaha MT-07. In addition, the brand had recently filed a trademark for the 'YZF-R7' moniker. Yamaha has not announced a launch date via the teaser video but we can expect more such videos in the coming days with perhaps a glimpse of the upcoming motorcycle. It is unlikely to go on sale in the Indian market.

Going by the teaser video, we can clearly see a bike flowing from corner to corner on a racing circuit with a rider-eye camera view. Though the view in the video is changed midway to a twisty mountain road which clearly states that the upcoming Yamaha R series motorcycle would not only be track specific but it would also be for street use. It was back in November last year when the Japanese bikemaker had announced that it will phase out the road-legal version of the YZF-R6, leaving a huge gap between YZF-R15 and the lower R Series models. Hence, it can be stated that the new R-series motorcycle might be based on the MT-07 while placed in the middleweight segment.

As told before, Yamaha had filed for YZF-R7 with California’s Air Resources Board (CARB). The document further revealed that it has filed for two names for the YZF-R7 in the form of ‘YZFR7NCB’ and ‘YZFR7NCL’, which could be the paint schemes. It has been learnt that the new R series bike could be based on the same chassis as the MT-07 due to its weight listed in the CARB filings which is again similar to the MT-07. Furthermore, we can expect it to be powered by the same 689cc parallel-twin engine. Details are scarce at the moment but we can expect more information in the coming months and it might be finally unveiled before the end of this year. Stay tuned for more updates!
