Jeep Grand Commander, the recently announced 7-seater SUV, has been spotted testing on the Indian roads for the very first time. Our friends at Rushlane have clicked the exclusive images of the new three-row SUV doing the test runs. Being codenamed as H6, it will be positioned in the full-sized SUV segment against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Ford Endeavour in India. Jeep Grand Commander is expected to launch by mid 2022 in the country. It takes styling cues, features and powertrain options from the Compass SUV.

The Grand Commander has already been spotted multiple times in China in a nearly production-ready avatar while the company has also released a few teaser videos of the SUV. Going by the spy-shots, one can assume that these two mules are being prepared for pre-trial rest runs. Though, wearing camouflage but it can be still stated that the front fascia draws heavy inspiration from the Compass with the 7-slat grille. In addition, there is an extended overhang, circular wheel arches, flatter tailgate and newly designed sleek tail lamps to distinguish it from the Compass SUV. The Commander is going to be the third Jeep SUV to be locally assembled at its Ranjangaon facility in India. It is expected to ride on the same set of 17-inch alloy wheels as the Compass.

There is no image available of the interior cabin but we expected it to be on the similar lines as the Compass with same upholstery, seats and dashboard design. The features could include panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, digital instrument cluster, cruise control and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The India-spec Jeep Grand Commander will be powered by the same 2.0L diesel engine which does duties to the Compass. Though, it could be retuned to extract more power and torque with the Grand Commander. The engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmission options alongside a 4x4 drive system as standard.
