Hero MotoCorp has unveiled the prototype of its first-ever electric scooter for the Indian market. The company's first electric scooter is based on the Maestro 125 while it is expected to launch in the country by mid 2021. Being dubbed as Hero eMaestro Proto, it is identical to the standard Maestro 125 in terms of appearance and styling. Though, the home-grown automaker has worked thoroughly on the feature segment to ensure the model gives nightmares to its rivals in the segment.

As for styling, Hero Maestro Electric gets a LED headlamp which has been blacked out. It rides on copper brown finished wheels while boasting of a front fork slider. The only difference is that the new scooter would flaunt a green number plate as it is an electric powered vehicle. Hero eMaestro Proto would come with an all digital instrument cluster which would be equipped with cloud-based connected tech. The electric scooter will feature a first-in-segment ride mode selector with three options: Drive, Park and Reverse. In order to change the riding mode, the rider needs to twist the left handle bar. This is something not new for the Indian market as we have already see it with older clutchless scooters such as Bajaj Priya and LML Vespa.

It will conprise of a lithium ion battery pack with a powerful magnet motor. It could have a similar powertrain as Ather 450X as Hero owns a large share in Ather Energy. For those asking, Ather 450X is powered by a 2.9kWh battery pack and a 6kW motor. Though, the Hero Group already has several electric scooters under the Hero Electric brand but it will be the first mass market electric product to come from Hero MotoCorp. Just so you know, Hero Electric and Hero MotoCorp operate independently and are different entities altogether.
