Although the car industry as a whole has been on a sales slump run lately, the only promise that the market has witnessed has been from the SUV segment. Indians seem to love SUVs and the way makers are lining up SUV launches in India also supports this claim. Some makers like Tata Motors have also shelved a few projects in favor of bringing more SUVs in the Indian market. A major reason why Indians seem to love SUVs is that the road conditions of India are best suited for SUVs.

Not to say that there no good roads in India, in fact India has some of the best roads in the world and their quality is improving by the day. However, the good quality of roads in India is not uniform and hence the higher ground clearance of SUVs make them a perfect vehicle type for all kinds of Indian roads. Not to mention that SUVs are also big and Indians love massive street presence of cars. However, even the sub-4 meter compact SUVs that are the most affordable kind of SUVs are way expensive when compared to an entry level car.
