The All-New 5th Generation Honda City was officially launched in the country last month at an introductory price of Rs 10.89 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. The Japanese automaker is currently also selling the older-generation Honda City with the new-gen model. In a new development, Honda Cars India Ltd has just announced that it will continue to retail the previous-gen Honda City in just two variants SV and V. These trims come equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine on-board which is matted to a manual transmission. Apart from that, the company has discontinued the entire diesel line-up of the sedan. The price for the 4th-Generation model now begins from Rs 9.29,900 (ex-showroom), India.
Speaking on the anouncement, Rajesh Goel, Sr. Vice President and Director, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd said, “While the All-New 5th Gen Honda City has created a new benchmark of supremacy occupying the most premium position in the mid-size sedan segment, we had decided to continue selling the 4th Generation Honda City as it continues to be a popular model with its contemporary styling and is also BS-6 compliant. With the continuation of 4th Generation Honda City in SV and V grade, we have ensured that the City brand is available to a wider set of customers in terms of trims and different price points in the mid-size sedan segment.”
The City has been churning out good numbers for the automotive giant with over 3.5 lakh units sold since its launch in January 2014 in India. Talking about the New Honda City, the 5th Generation model comes equipped with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC engine. The petrol powertrain is capable of producing 121bhp of power and 145Nm of peak torque while being mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a new 7-speed CVT (Continous Variable Transmission). While the diesel model comes fitted with a 1.5-litre i-DTEC DOHC engine. The oil mill delivers a maximum power output of 100 bhp with 200 Nm of peak torque and comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
